This weekend was pretty much dedicated to breaking in my belated birthday present. I became close friends with my owners manual and familiarized myself as much as I could with my new toy. It's going to take me a while to get used to a more robust piece of equipment but I think I have the general hang of it. My old Nikon has been evicted and is laying with his counterparts on the floor next to my night stand. I feel like a bit of a trader abandoning what has been my partner for over two years but you gotta do what you gotta do. I shot close over two hundred pictures and here are some results from the first go around.

~ Alice - a bit dark but I have never been able to create such a shallow depth of field.

~ Berries - My one gripe is that Canon does not have spot metering which kind of sucks.

~ Living Room - What I do like is the ability to not only take black and white and sepia shots but the ability to adjust the tones so that it doesnt have to be done post production.

~ Edward - This was just a cool macro shot. It's best viewed at its original size though.

~ Gary - Our gigantic pet snail. I know it is dark but this was taken at an ISO of 1600 and it just impressed the hell out of me that there was so little noise.

~ Johnny K - It was just too damn cute not to select.

~ Working - Playing with the 50mm lens was fun.

~ Still working - I love having a lens with a large aperture. YAY!

The bottom line is, my first camera was a digital Canon point and shoot. The pictures with that camera were dramatically darker once uploaded and it seems that the same applies to this camera as well. It is going to fun (and probably frustrating) learning the idiosyncrasies of this camera but I was suprisingly not as in the dark as I thought I would be. Well see. It should be interesting seeing what I come up with though so stay tuned.

Because I was so damn cute he decided to eat my brains but because I dont eat human organs, I took pictures of him and his zombie wounds instead. I then proceeded to get silly with my bff.
