It has been close to four and a half months since I stopped smoking with absolutely NO cravings, no withdrawals and no addict like outburst of, "I’m gonna kill you if you don't shove 18 cigarettes into my mouth NOW!" Cancer will do that to you but may I suggest you to try the patch first.

Since then I have just been rolling with the punches and dealing with my father’s illness and dealing with my parent’s propensity to acquiesce. It’s maddening really but I have learned that I can’t expect everyone to handle situations as I would and that I need to be patient. Another post for another time.

I have also embarked on a mission to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as my dad has CNS Lymphoma.

Currently I am training for a half marathon to be held in April of 2006 in NashVegas, TN. I am running in honor of my dad and in memory of my friend Melissa who lost her life to cancer a few months back but I desperately need everyone’s help!

I must raise a minimum of $2500 to run. 74% of that amount goes directly to the society for research and for advocacy and the other 25% goes towards my training expenses. If I am lucky enough to collect above the minimum amount, 100% of the money that I raise will go directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I can assure you it will help. Within the past couple of years new chemotherapy treatments have been developed, treatments that my dad is on now. There is a huge success rate for patients who have been through these regiments and I am so thankful that there are so many people working towards a cure. Cancer is unfortunately a two degrees of separation type of disease and I guarantee that if you don’t know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer you know someone that knows someone who has. The numbers are staggering and scary. This is our only line of defense.

Folks, when are we going to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?

No, I am not talking about the rising cost of fuel and I am not preaching atop my soap box in a vain attempt to end the war in Iraq. THIS, my friends, is an issue far more important and any eco-socio-politico topic you will hear discussed at the water cooler. For some reason we have resigned ourselves to just live with this shameful American "trend" however, this offense is something I think we can all agree is repulsive and I can keep quiet no more. What I am talking about are THESE! Fucking hideous I know. I mean, the mere sight of them makes my blood boil to a murderous degree. Hopefully you are not subjected to them on any sort of regular basis. If you are lucky you live in an urban area where women are lynched for wearing such a blatant abomination. But if you are like me and have the unfortunate dishonor of living in a suburban location where this type of atrocity is RAMPANT, please know that you are not alone in your pain. I realize this is nothing but mindless bitching and I have presented no real solution to this problem but the, are they mules or are they tennis shoes, infamy has got to fucking end otherwise I cannot be held accountable for my actions at the next function where I am forced to interact with the horrendous shrews responsible for my anguish.

Please stay tuned for my next rant - PLEATED JEANS!
